PGY1 Pharmacy Santa Rosa, California

The Kaiser Permanente Medical Center – Santa Rosa PGY1 pharmacy residency program follows guidelines set by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and provides thorough training in a variety of specialties.

The purpose of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center – Santa Rosa PGY1 pharmacy residency program is to prepare pharmacists for inpatient, ambulatory care and outpatient positions.
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

Pharmacy Services

The pharmacy department in Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa supports Kaiser Permanente’s mission to provide high-quality, affordable healthcare services and to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve. Our pharmacists and support personnel practice in inpatient, outpatient, oncology and non-oncology infusion, multiple ambulatory care programs, education, and administrative settings.

Inpatient pharmaceutical care services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Clinical pharmacists work closely with interdisciplinary care teams to support medication management, antimicrobial stewardship, transitions of care, medication safety, and quality improvement initiatives. Outpatient pharmacies are open seven days a week to provide medication dispensing, patient counseling, and medication access support for our members.

Our ambulatory care and infusion pharmacists collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals across a variety of specialty and primary care settings. Through direct patient care, collaborative practice agreements, and population health initiatives, pharmacists play an integral role in optimizing medication therapy, improving outcomes, and enhancing the affordability and accessibility of care.

Requirements for Acceptance

• Must be licensed as an Intern Pharmacist in the state of California by the first day of residency program.
• Resident must be a licensed California pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will have their term of appointment extended by the number of days the resident is without licensure past the 120-day deadline up to a maximum of 45 days. Failure to obtain a California state pharmacist license within 165 days from the program start date will result in the resident being dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.
• To be eligible for pharmacist licensure, candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP.
