PGY2 Ambulatory Care Portland, Oregon

Caring for our communities for more than 75 years, Kaiser Permanente Northwest serves over 625,000 members in the Portland metro area, from Eugene, Oregon to Longview, Washington. Approximately 1020 pharmacy employees provide services in 26 pharmacy locations and 2 hospitals.

Purpose: PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.


Pharmacy Services

KPNW pharmacists work collaboratively with healthcare practitioners across the care continuum including inpatient, outpatient, transitions of care, home infusion, oncology, ambulatory care, academia, and administrative settings. With outpatient pharmacy services in nearly all of our medical offices, KPNW promotes pharmacy as an integral part of the healthcare team. KPNW pharmacists are valued and influential at every level of our organization.

KPNW is advancing the scope of pharmacy practice by developing opportunities for population management and direct patient care services in a variety of clinical specialties. With more than 50 collaborative drug therapy management protocols and authorized pharmacist prescribing, pharmacists have ample opportunity to provide direct patient care across a variety of settings.

We strive to create an enriching experience by offering a flexible schedule designed to drive each resident to reach their full potential.

Requirements for Acceptance

  • Must have completed an ASHP accredited or candidate-status PGY1 residency prior to start of program.
  • Must be licensed as an Intern Pharmacist or a Pharmacist in the state of Oregon by the first day of residency program if not already licensed as a pharmacist in Oregon.
  • Resident must be a licensed Oregon pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will have their term of appointment extended by the number of days the resident is without licensure past the 120-day deadline up to a maximum of 45 days. Failure to obtain a California state pharmacist license within 165 days from the program start date will result in the resident being dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.
  • Must be a licensed Washington Pharmacist within 180 days from the program start date.
  • To be eligible for pharmacist licensure, candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP.
  • Certifications (If applicable): BLS
  • Candidates must be registered in the National Matching Services, Inc. (NMS).
  • Candidates must participate in the ASHP Matching Program.
