PGY2 Ambulatory Care Rockville, Maryland

Join an organization founded on innovative thinking.

This 52-week Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) pharmacy residency program in Ambulatory Care offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in a variety of pharmacy practice areas within Kaiser Permanente.

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

The Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States Post Graduate Year Two (PGY2) Ambulatory Care residency program focuses on ambulatory care within an integrated health care system. During the residency program, residents will hone their leadership, clinical, and academic skills and cultivate a philosophy of practice that embraces being responsible to their patients, their fellow healthcare providers, the organization and the public for optimal drug therapy outcomes.

In addition to helping develop new and update existing pharmacy services, the resident will be afforded the following exciting opportunities:
-Member of the Regional Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee meeting through development and presentation of comprehensive drug reviews, class reviews, and/or drug use evaluations
-Assist in educating PGY1 pharmacy residents and pharmacy students through journal clubs, topic discussions etc.
-Develop and present continuing education programs to physicians, health care team members, professional and community organizations
-Project management including conducting population-based projects
-Leadership Development Program centered around three core elements: Leading yourself, Leading others, and Leading the profession
-Develop a new clinical service structure, business plan proposal, budget assessment and proposal

Graduates of this program will be well prepared to practice as a clinical pharmacy specialist across a variety of ambulatory care settings.
