PGY2 Oncology Fontana-Riverside, California

The PGY2 Residency program was established in 2008. The Oncology Pharmacy Residency is an innovative and exciting program designed to transition PGY 1 graduates from generalist practice to specialized practice focused on the care of patients with cancer and other hematological disorders. Residents will have direct patient experience with over 15 different types of common malignancies including (but not limited to): Breast cancer, Colorectal cancer, Acute/Chronic Leukemias, Lung cancer, Lymphomas, Ovarian cancer, and Prostate cancer. Additionally, residents will have direct patient experience with cancer-related disorders and cancer treatment disorders such as: antiemetic therapy, pain management, myelosuppression therapy, nutritional support, treatment of infections in immunocompromised patients, and much more. Residents will also have opportunities to learn about cancer research, clinical investigational trials, and current treatment procedures such as stem cell therapy, intrathecal/intraventricular therapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. This is a 12-month specialized residency position located in Southern California at the Fontana and Riverside Medical Centers. We have 7 licensed oncology pharmacies: 3 licensed oncology pharmacies in Fontana, and 4 pharmacies in Riverside.


Pharmacy Services

We have 7 licensed oncology pharmacies: 3 licensed oncology pharmacies in Fontana, and 4 pharmacies in Riverside. Our services include outpatient oncology infusions, inpatient chemotherapy management, pharmacy driven protocols such as carboplatin per pharmacy dosing, electrolyte management, erythropoietin stimulating factor management, and oral chemotherapy management. We work in collaboration with physicians, nursing, and researchers to provide exceptional services for our patients.

  • Residents may extend an existing rotation or ask to start a new rotation that is not listed (dependent on availability)

Requirements for Acceptance

  • Must have completed a first year Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program prior to start of program.
  • Must be licensed as an Intern Pharmacist in the state of California by the first day of residency program.
  • Certifications (If applicable): BLS, ACLS
  • Resident must be a licensed California pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will have their term of appointment extended by the number of days the resident is without licensure past the 120-day deadline up to a maximum of 45 days. Failure to obtain a California state pharmacist license within 165 days from the program start date will result in the resident being dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.
  • To be eligible for pharmacist licensure, candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP.
