PGY2 Oncology Fontana-Riverside, California
The Kaiser Permanente Inland Empire PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency is a dynamic and innovative 52 week (12-month) program designed to transition PGY1 graduates from generalist practice to advanced, specialized practice in oncology.
Residents will gain direct patient care experience across a wide spectrum of over 15 common malignancies, including but not limited to:
• Breast Cancer
• Colorectal Cancer
• Acute and Chronic Leukemias
• Lung Cancer
• Lymphomas
• Ovarian Cancer
• Prostate Cancer
Our program offers exposure to a diverse patient population, from pediatrics to adults, and includes hands-on experience managing cancer-related and treatment-related conditions such as:
• Antiemetic therapy
• Pain management
• Myelosuppression
• Infectious disease management in immunocompromised patients
Residents will also explore cutting-edge oncology practices, including:
• Clinical research and investigational drug trials
• Stem cell therapy
• Radiation therapy and surgical oncology
Additional training includes oncology drug information services and electronic health record chemotherapy treatment plan development.
This residency offers a robust and supportive learning environment within one of the nation’s leading integrated healthcare systems, preparing residents to become confident, compassionate, and highly skilled oncology pharmacy practitioners.
Pharmacy Services
We have 7 licensed oncology pharmacies: 3 licensed oncology pharmacies in Fontana, and 4 pharmacies in Riverside. Our services include outpatient oncology infusions, inpatient chemotherapy management, pharmacy driven protocols such as carboplatin per pharmacy dosing, electrolyte management, erythropoietin stimulating factor management, and oral chemotherapy management. We work in collaboration with physicians, nursing, and researchers to provide exceptional services for our patients

- Oncology Pharmacy Drug Intelligence & Strategy (DIS) and Beacon Module – 6 weeks
- Oncology Pharmacy Practice Management – 2 weeks
- Oncology Research – 1 week
- Ontario-Vineyard Adult Hematology-Oncology – 8 weeks
- Orientation – 4 weeks
- Riverside – Oral Chemotherapy Clinic – 8 weeks
- City of Hope – Bone Marrow Transplant – 2 weeks

- Residents may extend an existing rotation or ask to start a new rotation that is not listed (dependent on availability)
Requirements for Acceptance
- Must have completed an ASHP accredited or candidate-status PGY1 residency Program prior to start of program.
- Must be licensed as an Intern Pharmacist in the state of California by the first day of residency program if not already licensed as a pharmacist in California.
- Resident must be a licensed California pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will have their term of appointment extended by the number of days the resident is without licensure past the 120-day deadline up to a maximum of 45 days. Failure to obtain a California state pharmacist license within 165 days from the program start date will result in the resident being dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.
- To be eligible for pharmacist licensure, candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP.
