PGY2 Oncology Diablo-Walnut Creek, California

The PGY2 oncology pharmacy residency, at Kaiser Permanente, Diablo Service Area (Walnut Creek/Antioch/Dublin) follows guidelines set by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The Program provides a comprehensive learning experience which exposes the resident to all areas of oncology patient care with an emphasis in the ambulatory care setting. The training includes rotations in Inpatient Oncology and Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, and Pediatric Oncology and Hematology. The outpatient oncology clinic in Walnut Creek will give the resident opportunities to experience a wide variety of cancer disease states and supportive care. The oncology resident works closely with preceptors, physicians, nurses, and patients to become an integral part of the oncology care team. Our primary objective is to prepare the resident to be a qualified and competent clinical oncology pharmacy specialist practicing in an adult oncology/hematology ambulatory care clinic.

Statement of Purpose

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
