PGY2 Oncology Woodland Hills, California

The Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Oncology Pharmacy Residency is a 52-week (12-month) PGY2 program designed to provide comprehensive training in acute care, ambulatory care, outpatient oncology pharmacy, drug information, and pharmacy leadership.

The residency offers an individualized training plan tailored to each resident’s interests, career goals, and prior experiences. A strong foundation is established through required core rotations, complemented by elective learning experiences that allow residents to explore specialized areas of oncology practice.

Throughout the program, residents gain extensive hands-on experience providing direct patient care as integral members of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Learning experiences include oncology clinics, chemotherapy infusion centers, oral oncology services, and supportive care, with opportunities to participate in clinical trials and investigational drug services. Residents also develop expertise in evidence-based pharmacotherapy, medication safety, quality improvement, research, and precepting.

Upon completion of the residency, graduates will be well prepared to assume advanced clinical oncology pharmacy positions and provide high-quality, patient-centered care while contributing to innovation and the advancement of oncology pharmacy practice.

Pharmacy Services

Since 1986, Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center has been committed to providing exceptional, patient-centered care to the communities of Woodland Hills and West Ventura. Our service area includes more than 270,000 members across 14 medical office buildings located in Woodland Hills, Porter Ranch, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Oxnard, and Ventura. Adult oncology pharmacy services are provided at both the Woodland Hills Medical Center and the Ventura Market Street Medical Office Building.

The Woodland Hills Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Services (CPS) include two sterile compounding infusion pharmacies and a comprehensive Oral Chemotherapy Clinical Management Program. Oncology CPS supports approximately 100 sterile preparations daily (70 at Woodland Hills and 30 at Ventura), inpatient oncology services, non-oncology clinics requiring hazardous sterile compounding, oral anticancer therapy management, and supportive care clinical pharmacy services. As one of four Kaiser Permanente Oral Chemotherapy Centers of Excellence (COE), our program provides comprehensive oral oncology management for patients throughout Southern California, including Woodland Hills, Downey, Kern County, Panorama City, Antelope Valley, and Santa Clarita. The Oral Chemotherapy Clinical Management Program currently provides longitudinal care for more than 900 patients.

Residents participate in a diverse range of clinical learning experiences across malignant hematology and solid tumor oncology, including a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) rotation at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Throughout the residency, pharmacists develop expertise in direct patient care, high-volume sterile compounding, oral oncology management, supportive care, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration while training alongside an experienced team of oncology pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Requirements for Acceptance

Must have completed an ASHP accredited or candidate-status PGY1 residency prior to start of program.
Must be licensed as an Intern Pharmacist in the state of California by the first day of residency program if not already licensed as a pharmacist in California.
Resident must be a licensed California pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will have their term of appointment extended by the number of days the resident is without licensure past the 120-day deadline up to a maximum of 45 days. Failure to obtain a California state pharmacist license within 165 days from the program start date will result in the resident being dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.
To be eligible for pharmacist licensure, candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the NABP.
